In February 2013, the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts presented Nordic Cool, a month-long festival focused on the diverse cultures of the Nordic countries. The festival of theatre, dance, music, visual arts, literature, cuisine, and film focused on the diverse cultures of the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) as well as the territories of Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and Åland Islands.
Kokoro & Moi developed the festival identity, which extended across the printed collateral and through the exhibitions and special events.
The identity of Nordic Cool 2013 was conceptualized to portray this diverse and culturally unique region through a patchwork of graphic cues. These cues stem from the national symbols, forms, and colors, from design tradition and everyday culture. Nature and the sea play a part as the unifying organic force of the region, and the vehicle for exchanging traditions, goods and ideas.
