It’s time to pull on the gym socks and get your body moving!
Motivus was a Finnish gym chain founded in the 80s with its glory days in the 90s. The competition in the industry intensified at the turn of the millennium, and gradually the chain ran into financial problems, closing the doors of its last gyms at the start of the covid pandemic in spring 2020.
Now, with the new owners, Motivus is back in business again. The renewed brand opened its first branch in a stunning industrial-style space in Helsinki's living room Train Factory in the summer of 2022, with more locations in the pipeline. We designed the new visual identity for the renewed brand.
Motivus was a Finnish gym chain founded in the 80s and closed down during the covid pandemic, but now making a comeback with new owners.
In the identity, we wanted to celebrate the positivity and joy of movement, with respect to the old brand and its 90s vibe. We designed a new logo keeping the oval shape of the old logo. The oval shape is also repeated as queues and formations in the backgrounds of the applications, communicating the repetition of movements associated with the gym training.
The same repetition can be seen in the headlines and big words, taking over the surfaces. For the typography in the logo and headlines, we used Trois Mille (by Sharp Type), and its Black Italic style, which sympathetically resembles the roundness of the muscles. Thinner cuts of the font serve the other text needs. The color palette consists of poppy blue, pink, and orange. In the visual identity applications, the elements, together with the photos, are layered and organized in dynamic and playful compositions.
In the identity, we wanted to celebrate the positivity and joy of movement with a bold and playful set of logo, fonts, and colors.
