Visual identity for the culinary oasis in the heart of summery Helsinki.
Kasarmitori Summer provided visitors with the opportunity to enjoy the best seasonal treats from 13 Helsinki-based quality restaurants in a festive marine-themed environment. During its two-month summer operating period, the terrace offered culinary delights and served as a safe meeting place for approximately 310,000 visitors. Terrace-goers also enjoyed surprise performances planned and realised in collaboration with around four hundred arts and culture professionals. The summer arrangements and activities on Kasarmitori Square were a joint project of various City of Helsinki divisions.
Kokoro & Moi was in charge of designing the visual identity and various visual communications and marketing materials for the project.

Visual identity for the summer terrace was built using the visual identity system of the City of Helsinki. Rich and vivid colors were chosen from Helsinki’s color palette, and the Helsinki framed logo and Helsinki Grotesk font came from the guidelines. To create a unique and inspiring identity that communicated the atmosphere and theme of the event, we came up with illustrations inspired by the location and the spatial design of the area. Marine theme with wild plant drawings was combined with the perforated pattern, inspired by the square's landmark, National Memorial to the Winter War, by sculptor Pekka Kauhanen. In visual communication and marketing materials, the illustrations took a prominent role, conveying and reinforcing the summer vibes of the terrace.
Over 300.000 terrace-goers enjoyed Kasarmitori Summer and its treats in summer 2021.
