DAC was a non-profit contemporary arts foundation with a mission to preserve the neighborhood of Dumbo as a springboard for new art.
The Dumbo Arts Center (DAC) is a non-profit contemporary arts organization located in Dumbo, Brooklyn, New York. DAC's mission is to catalyze interaction between visual artists, the local community and the wider public, in order to preserve the neighborhood of Dumbo as a springboard for new art. DAC presents a year-round programme of new exhibitions in its gallery, commissions site-specific art and provides educational programmes for artists and high school students. By attracting thousands of visitors and media attention to the once abandoned manufacturing area, DAC's role has been pivotal in the establishment of Dumbo, Brooklyn as a recognized neighborhood and cultural destination.
Kokoro & Moi designed the new graphic identity for DAC with a vision for an identity system that would be more rooted in the surrounding neighborhood and DAC's role as a supporting structure for cultural life in the Dumbo area.
The main element of the identity is the custom-made Dumbo Sans typeface, which has taken its forms from various supporting elements of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, which dominate the Dumbo skyline. The graphic style used in the identity is modern and stripped down, but also reminiscent of Dumbo's manufacturing past.
